If You Seek a Pleasant Peninsula, Look about You.  One of the worlds biggest wonders and some of the Nations most picturesque scenery, Michigan with its two peninsulas, numerous inland lakes and over 3000 miles of shoreline, combined with a pleasantly cool summer climate, have long attracted vacationers.

Places of interest in the state include; Sleeping Bear Dunes national lakeshores; the Tehquamenon Falls; Manistee National Forest; Lake Superior (the infamous sinking of the Edmond Fitzgerald); Mackinac Island (where there are no cars); the Mackinac Bridge; the Soo Locks; Pictured Rocks National Park; Isle Royale National Park and Porcupine National Park.

The "Mighty Mac" spans 5 miles and connects the Upper Peninsula with the Lower Peninsula and cost $99.8 million to build from 1954 through 1957 by the hands of 3,500 workers.  It is the third longest suspension bridge in the world and the longest in the Western Hemisphere.  Weighing in at 1,024,500 tons, whose main tower is approximately 552 feet above the water, The "Mighty Mac" has withstood the winds of the Straights, the test of time and the one million cars that travel across it every year.  The "Mighty Mac" recently celebrated it's 50th anniversary!

The Big Fitz "A Story of the Sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald" by R.D. Pangburn

This poetic children's story is masterfully written in rhyme and details the facts about the history and the infamous sinking of the Edmund Fitzgerald.

Excerpts From "The Big Fitz"
Dubbed the BIG FITZ, by maritime men;
Who sailed the five lakes again and again.
From bow to stern, she spanned 7-2-9;
The largest vessel at that point in time.
Challenging lakes of Erie, Ontario;
Michigan, Huron, last challenge, Superior.
For 17 years, The Fitz sailed the Lakes;
Served by her captain and all of her mates.
1975, was the year to remember;
The day was the 10th, and the month was November.
Loaded in Superior, with pellets of ore;
Destination Detroit, interrupted by horror.....
